NEVER MAKE A PERMANENT DECISION BASED ON A TEMPORARY SITUATION!
This pic on the left was taken years ago! I was a teenager, had just graduated as a Petroleum Engineer, picked up my bag soon as my thesis was approved same day and was headed for the airport to catch a flight back home.At the airport I met with Gerald Walker. I had just sat down at a corner waiting for my flight time when he approached me. The first thing he told me was- I see so much in you and I’d want your expertise to be harnessed with my company -His company, at the time had just won very lucrative contracts with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.
Astonished and wondered if this fine looking man who looked so clean with a style was joking with me- I remember telling him- you can’t afford my remuneration. At this time I had already great oil experience with shell and had supervised crude oil well operations in one of the Largest oil terminals producing millions of barrels per day whilst studying so it was natural to crave for more…well the rest is history. I became solely responsible for all major decisions involved in installing world class facilities in Nigeria including contract Negotiations with Shell Nigeria.
He believed in me regardless of how young I looked and I delivered greatly. Over the years, with sincerity and credibility our work relationship continuously evolved.
Gerald walker has written the book ‘Never make a Permanent decision based on a temporary situation’ after his young son committed suicide. This book will reveal to you the signs and symptom of depression that parents might not see in their children, you will understand clearly and naturally the nature of a complex person, this book will avail to you a reason to see that there’s so much to be thankful for as you stay alive!
